Central New York businesses and universities possess distinctive technology in SAID - technology that integrates the ability to automatically sense, analyze, interpret, and decide what to do in situations found in defense, electronic commerce, manufacturing, information management, and healthcare.

The origins of SAID have their roots in decades of high-tech research and development found in: (1) Utica and Rome at the Air Force Research Lab that over the last 40 years sponsored billions of dollars in R&D in radar and command and control (2) Ithaca and Binghamton at Cornell and IBM that developed integrated circuit technologies for microwave radars (3) Syracuse at Syracuse University and General Electric developing antennas, signal processing algorithms, and command and control systems for entire radar, sonar, and communications systems

The capability to automatically sense, analyze, interpret, and decide is crucial to succeed in the information-based high-tech economy. SAID provides the ability to do quick and accurate situation assessments coupled with automated decision making, command, and control.

The beginnings of SAID technology are being used by CNY companies such as Welch Allyn in medical instrumentation and healthcare, by a variety of manufacturers of equipment for environmental quality such as Carrier, and by information management and security companies such as WetStone Technologies and Research Associates of Syracuse (RAS).

These technologies form the basis of SAID - a signature technology of Central New York.
