Course Content
This Black Belt course combines e-learning plus practical application to ensure knowledge transfer of the Six Sigma methodology to the potential Black Belt candidates. The program is structured such that the tools are learned though a series of online lectures and demonstrations, and then put to practical use through training workshops in the classroom. These training workshops consist of one classroom day of training per DMAIC phase (with the exception of Define and Measure combined) and are designed to put the tools learned into practical application through the use of demonstrations, exercises, and project work. Each potential Black Belt candidate will come to the training with a project, and then apply to that project the tools learned throughout the training.

The online training portion is self paced which allows the students to absorb and understand the material at their own rate. The program also includes four optional classroom days (at Syracuse University), coinciding with the Define/Measure phase, the Analyze phase, the Improve phase, and finally the Control phase.

In addition, student support will be provided through a series of conference calls, e-mails, and available telephone support to ensure that the Black Belt candidates are progressing in their projects.

This e-learning and classroom Black Belt curriculum, including the online lectures, slides, and demonstrations, has been used throughout the United States in academic institutions and private and public companies alike. The material is proven to ensure that the Black Belt candidates learn and are able to put the Six Sigma tools into practical application.

The Purpose of the Black Belt training is to:

  • Gain a thorough knowledge of the Six Sigma measurement, methodology and the five- phase DMAIC approach
  • Gain a practical understanding of the strategy behind a Six Sigma deployment
  • Gain a practical understanding of the principles of statistical methods and related tools of each of the five phases of the Six Sigma methodology
  • Understand the application of the tools and techniques in project completion
  • Gain an understanding of how to propel their organizations toward “best-in-class” status by reducing costs, improving quality, reducing cycle times, eliminating defects, reducing variation, eliminating waste, and significantly increasing customer satisfaction
  • Completion of a Six Sigma project
